BRIT It girl of pop Jessie J, dressed by the world’s leading designers and adorned by the finest jewellers, is on a less-is-more trip.
The make-up has been toned down, the hair put up and a Kylie Minogue T-shirt will be her fashion statement for her Future Music Festival set at Randwick Racecourse today.
The Price Tag singer said exhaustion from touring and promotional commitments had turned her into a drag queen.
“I have calmed down my look. Is it really necessary to wear all that jewellery and make-up at 7am and look like a drag queen?” she said yesterday. “When you’re tired you start to over-compensate for it by wearing too much bling.”
Jessie J said sharing a stage with more typical festival acts such as Fatboy Slim, Skrillex and Swedish House Mafia posed a challenge for a more conventional pop act.
Future Music has transformed itself from a DJ and dance-heavy festival to hosting more mainstream pop and rock acts such asGym Class Heroes.
“A festival is about being free to be me, about letting yourself – and your expectations – go,” she said.

Jessie J reportedly joined forces with her fellow The Voice UK coaches Will.i.am, Tom Jones and The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue recently to perform the Black Eyed Peas hit ‘I’ve Gotta Feeling’.
The artists apparently wowed the audience who were in attendance for the taping of the series according to The Sun with one onlooker describing the experience as “incredible.”
They told the publication: “It was incredible to see such big names in music perform together. Hopefully this has set the bar for the rest of the show.
“Everyone was jumping out of their seats and dancing along. It was really exciting. The whole concept seems to be very different from The X Factor, which will be very refreshing.”
Filming for the show has already begun and Jessie recently took to her Twitter account to tell her fans that she was finding the whole experience “amazing”
Jessie J has lead the tributes to soul singer Etta James who passed away today (20th January) at the age of 73.
The ‘Who’s Laughing Now’ star described the singer’s voice as “timeless” in a post on her Twitter account.
She tweeted:
“Just been told the legend that is Etta James has passed. Thank you for your voice your dedication to us and your gift. Your voice is timeless and will forever live on. I will always look to you for inspiration. R.I.P <3."
Etta recently featured on Flo Rida’s recent Vodafone Big Top 40 number one single ‘Good Feeling’ and passed away through complications of leukemia at a hospital in California.
Jessie J has said she is excited about shaving her head.
The ‘Who You Are’ star has vowed to shave her famous hair off this year in aid of some as-yet-unknown charities.
Speaking to Capital FM, the singer said she was set to have a meeting next week about the project.
“I’m having a meeting about it next week and talking about the charities I want to do it for and how we’re going to do it,” she said.
“It’s one of those things you say but a lot of planning has to go into it. But I’m excited; I’m excited to do something good for the world.”
Jessie, who has yet to decide when she will shave her head, said that she had decided to embark on the ambitious project after breaking her foot in 2011.
“When I broke my foot I went round a lot of hospitals and met a lot of kids that inspired me more than anything else,” she said.
“The passion they have to carry on through times of illness. I need to use being someone that people know to do something good for the world.”

Jessie J has revealed she has a dinner date with Sir Tom Jones planned to discuss their new roles on The Voice.
The 23-year-old Domino singer and the veteran star are both signed up to appear as judges on the BBC music show, and Jessie revealed to the Daily Star she is looking forward to meeting him.
She said: “I get to hang out with Tom Jones soon. We’re going to dinner together.
“I’m just looking forward to seeing what he orders, to see what he eats.
“Is he a no-carbs man? Does he have soup or salad?”

He said: “It tells you to get back to what we used to eat when we were hunters and gatherers. Eat anything that’s natural – meat, fish, veg.”
